The author sounds pretty beat down! I found his comment that "I've
been at this for about 10 years at three different major corporations
and I've grown weary of having to explain over and over (and over)
again the merits of usability" interesting as I believe that
fundamentally our job is to persuade. We are focusing heavily on that
topic right now at the railroad. Anyway, thanks for sharing Amy

Interesting.  He does seem pretty beat down!  I thought it was really interesting that the study found usability professionals are more happy in "non ui-focused" businesses.  I also thought his statement about "agency staff are happier" to be a little suspect.  It's only one example, but I had a good friend recently leave a long time UX agency job for an "inside" job and I know she's much happier.  I wonder how large his research sample was.

Have a great day,
Amy
