UGANDA ID RENEWAL & REGISTRATION IN KENYA, NAIROBI.

Dear UgNet Family,
You asked, and the High Commission has answered by keeping the mandate of bringing services closer to you.

The High Commission has officially commenced National IDs Renewals & Registration, which exercise will take place at the High Commission offices located at Riverside, Nairobi. (See tweet for reference)

Who should partake
Any Ugandan living and working in Kenya and All Children born of at least one Ugandan parent. (Any Ugandan working in the formal and informal sectors in Kenya, married in Kenya, studying in Kenya)

Any Ugandan living in Kenya with an expired ID or one that is about to expire soon.

The date for fresh registrations will be communicated soon after the renewal exercise is completed, with the current exercise focus on the renewal of expired and expiring national IDs.

The Process
1. Pre- register from the NIRA website. (instructions below)
2. Book your appointment and register with Madam Sanyu Mandy via whatsapp DM ; Tel. ‪+254 745 881083‬ 
3.  Print the registration form or take a photo of the final page, which has a QR code and Acknowledgement number.
4. Present this form at the High Commission, where your biometrics will be captured.
5. An acknowledgement receipt will be given to you after successful registration and biometrics capture.
6. When the IDs are ready, present this slip & old National ID at the collection desk.

What to Carry on Appointment Day
1. Old National ID
2. A police abstract if lost and a copy of the old ID
3. Pre-registration Form with the QR Code and registration number
4. Carry a smile & Be smart😀

Note
1. This is a free exercise as the fees were scrapped. No payments are required during and after this exercise.
2. No changes as to the details on your National ID - Maintain the details as captured on the old National ID
3. Every Ugandan is required to register and obtain a new National ID as more biometric features have been introduced.

Timelines & Deadline (for renewal of expired and expiring national IDs.)
16th to 20th June 2025

All days from 10AM to 5PM

Q: My ID expires in 2030, should I also show up for this exercise?
A: We all eventually need to upgrade. But for now we are starting with renewals before rolling out for all.

STEPS TO RENEW YOUR NATIONAL ID:

1. Visit the NIRA website: www.nira.go.ug
2. Select Mass Enrollment and then click National ID Renewal
3. Enter your email address & select I am not a robot & click - SEND OTP - (a One Time Password (OTP) will be sent to your email)
4. Enter the 6 digit OTP and click verify to login to the system.
5. Create New Application
6. Choose the desired service - Renewal and click Next
7. Accept Terms & conditions
8. Click Personal Information & click Next
9. Fill Place of residence details as: Outside Uganda,  Kenya as (foreign country name) -  and click Next
10. Click the Declaration box and click CONTINUE.
11. Upload National ID if available in soft copy (if not present a copy of NID when coming for biometric capture) click PROCEED
12. Preview (you can modify if there are corrections, if ok) click PROCEED
13. Acknowledgement page download the PDF or print out the page with the QR CODE, your surname and Application ID.
14. VISIT THE EMBASSY FOR BIOMETRIC CAPTURE.

To the best of my knowledge, the service is currently being offered only at the Uganda High Commission in Nairobi (Chancery Building, Riverside).

Dear UgNet Family,
The Uganda High Commission wishes to inform you of the operating hours for National ID registration and renewal services in Kenya.

Days: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
Time: 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM

Thank you but we keep calling the number and the message is that It is a wrong number. Is it a Kenya number or Uganda number

Yes, it is a Kenyan number,  (+254745881083), Ms. Sanyu is also available on WhatsApp. 

Else, do pass by the Uganda High Commission offices located at Riverside, Nairobi, for her team to further assist you.

UPDATE: Temporary Suspension of ID Registration Services  

Dear UgNet Family,

The High Commission wishes to inform you that ID registration services will be temporarily suspended for the next two weeks.

Registration services will resume on Monday, 25th August 2025, at the High Commission offices located at Riverside, Chancery Building, Nairobi
The ID Registration working days and hours will remain as follows:
  • Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
  • 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
