PhD student position is available in the Dept of Animal Science at Cornell
University, Ithaca, NY to work in the area of animal genetics and genomics
with a start date in August 2012. Our lab is interested in the genetics of
complex traits in cattle, small ruminants and in using a mouse model to
dissect the epigenomics of obesity and metabolic syndrome from both
quantitative and molecular perspectives. Competitive applicants will have
the following minimum qualifications:
1. Hold a MS in animal science, biology, biochemistry or applied biology
discipline.
2. GRE General Test with combined verbal and math score of at least 1200.
3. If from a non-native English speaking country (outside US, Canada, UK,
Australia and New Zealand), candidates must score at least 550 on the paper
TOEFL test or the following on the individual components of the iBT version
Reading 20; Writing 20; Listening 15; Speaking 22
4. Previous research experience in genetics and molecular biology,
especially with peer-reviewed publication(s) is a distinct advantage and
will factor into the selection process. Stipend is very competitive at
roughly $29,000 per year, and comes with full tuition waiver and health
insurance. As long as the PhD student is making good progress towards the
degree, funding is guaranteed for 4 years.
