to Utah Groovy & Grails User Group
The University of Utah seeks a full-time Grails developer to develop,
extend, and maintain the Medical Home Portal (http://
www.medicalhomeportal.org/) - a unique site aimed at supporting
primary care clinicians and families in improving the care of children
with chronic health conditions and connecting them with local services
and resources, with the ability to replace the services databases by
user locale. The position is based in the Department of Biomedical
Informatics, which provides technical support for projects in numerous
other University departments. The Portal team resides in the
Department of Pediatrics.

The Portal is a Grails 1.3.7 application running on Tomcat and using
technologies that include Spring, Hibernate, Java 2 Enterprise
Edition, Goovy, ANT, and Altova’s suite of XML authoring tools. Most
of the Portal’s content is created by authors as XML documents using
the Authentic Browser plugin and stored in eXist; they are translated
dynamically into web pages thru XSLT and use custom tags to call data
stored in eXist and MySQL, rendering parts of pages as GSPs.

The site currently receives about 16K visits per month and is working
with 4 other states to integrate their services data. A number of
projects await the new developer, including new schemas for content
development/display, integration of a content management system,
redesign of the CSS, personalizable features for registered users,
including personal lists of services/resources, continued expansion to
integrate more states’ services data, etc.
