Minimum Infrastructure Requirements to Implement UgandaEMR PoC

Dear UgandaEMR Community,

Greetings from METS!!!!

Below are the minimum infrastructural requirements to implement UgandaEMR 3.0 (POC).

Minimum requirements to establish point of care
Infrastructure requirements	Service Point	No. of Computers	Remarks
Computers *	Registration & Triage	01	In case resources are available, triage can have its own computer
	Clinician room	01 x n	Each clinical room requires a computer; where n = number of clinical rooms
	Councillor’s room	01 x n	Each councillor room requires a computer; where n = number of councillor rooms
	Laboratory	01
	Pharmacy	01
	Total	05
Local Area Network	All service points	N/A	All service points should be connected to the dedicated server through TCP/IP
Dedicated server	N/A	01	A powerful computer to house the EMR that is centrally accessed via the different service points. Minimum specifications: 1.      Quad Core i7  3GHz Processor 2.      16GB DDR 3 RAM 3.      1TB HDD

 * Minimum Computer Specifications

1.      Dual Core i5 2.8GHz Processor

2.      4GB DDR 3 RAM

3.      500GB HDD

Thank you Jonathan for sharing the specs.

1. I have some observations I have made in light of POC 3.0 that I would like to share and probably get other views and success stories from the community.
2. MCH (EID / PMTCT) in some facilities is always in a different building, at times distant (above 500 meters). This has made it difficult to implementing POC.
3. Interoperability of Uganda EMR with other existing information systems like RX-Solutions,  ALIS, LIMS etc. The users in the Labs and pharmacies have raised a concern of having multiple systems capturing the same information.
4. At the regional referral (very high volume facilities), a persistent echo of slow speed by the server has been provided despite interventions like MySQL tweaking and Apache tweaking. Should we opt for smaller SSDs instead if anyone has tried it out.
