Hass avocado farming is worth everybody's investment who thinks farming as a business regardless of how much your job pays you since it's less risky, very low cost input, low maintenance and ready available market worldwide. Hass avocados mature after 2½ years and a single mature tree can produce more than 3000 (500kgs) fruits under good management practices. An Acre requires 160 trees at maximum, on planting spacing of 6m×4m of which production estimate is over 450,000fruits(75,000kgs). Although avocados are fairly resistant to drought, well distributed rainfall of between 1000-1200mm is adequate for proper crop development. They also require well drained soils to avoid root rot. The best soils are sandy or alluvial loams with pH ranging from 5 - 7.
PRODUCTION
A mature Hass tree produces up to 3000(500kgs) fruits per year and the current available farm gate market price offered by the biggest Kenyan fruits exporter I contacted is 550per fruit/ 3300per kilogram. Therefore a single Hass tree will generate in Ugshs1,650,000 every year year. And at acreage Ushs247,500,000 every year.
Direct export market chain current offer is $2 (ushs7200) per kilogram. Per tree UGshs 3,600,000. At acreage Ushs 540,000,000per year.
And market price is expected to rise because of high demand with limited supply.
REASONS/VALUES:
As to why it's the most demanded avocado variety globally. 90% demanded of all avocado varieties.
Hass avocado has the longest shelf life among all varieties up to 2-3 weeks from the time of harvesting which makes handling and shipment easy and convenient.
Hass has the most oil content of 17% in 100 grams of fruit pulp and of which oil production is highly valued, at local market cost of ugshs 70,000 per litre.
Hass avocado fruit is 75% creamy yellow and very delicious which makes it to be highly demanded by consumers basically for smoothies, salad and facials due to it's nutrition values.

ESTABLISHMENT COSTS:
1. An acre requires 160 seedlings, and the cost of a seedling is 5,000shs, so the total cost of seedlings is Ug shs 800,000.
2. Pitting & planting, each hole of 2x2ft costs between 500-800shs depending on cost of labour as per location, let us take 800shs, that will total to 128,000shs
3. Bush Clearing an acre ranges between 80,000 to 150,000shs
4. Fertilizer application at planting is 24,000shs, 2nd application after 6 months 48,000shs
5. Weeding per acre thrice a year 180,000shs
