Hey Awesome GTUG/GDG Members,
Are you a journalist? Are you someone interested in new media in general? Are you a developer? If so, this will definitely be of interest to you!
Hacks/Hackers is a rapidly expanding international grassroots journalism organization with dozens of chapters (and counting) and thousands of members across four continents (and counting). Our mission is to create a network of journalists (“hacks”) and technologists (“hackers”) who rethink the future of news and information.
The roots of Hacks/Hackers were planted in 2009, based on the interests of three people interested in the intersection of journalism and technology.
In Massachusetts, at a conference organized by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Aron Pilhofer of The New York Times and Rich Gordon from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, proposed creating “a network of people interested in Web/digital application development and technology innovation supporting the mission and goals of journalism.”
This first meeting is primarily to get start the first Hacks/Hackers chapter in Kampala (that will be the first Chapter in Eastern Africa and actually in SubSaharan Africa). It will act as a meet and greet (to allow people to put a face to the name). It will also be an opportunity to go through the general guiding principles for the running of the chapter to allow for harmony, coordination and organization going forward.
The details of the meeting will be communicated shortly.
Regards,
Kathryn Mirembe(Hacks/Hackers Lead- Kampala)
