With all undue respect, I’ll just like to say that I miss those days.
Terribly. Back then, when you organised a tourney, you could be sure
at least 50 dudes were going to turn up. Chessheads spent the better
part of their nights dreaming up the ultimate coup de theatre. Now, it
would seem that while the chess spirit is willing, the chess flesh is
weak.
Can I get a witness up in here?

Those days were really good! There used to be over 100 people in one
chess tourny, i wonder where all the chess players disappeared to!

That's a good question. It's almost as if they were all swallowed by a
super-massive black hole ;-)
Or perhaps they 'defected' to some other more 'lucrative' games/sports
(rugby, cricket) in which case it would appear that ladies aren't the
only ones that get 'distracted' from the game. It seems all Ugandan
chess players, regardless of sex, get to a point of diminishing chess
returns (for instance, consistently failing to make it on to the
Olympiad team) and just go, 'Scratch this! I need a life.'
