KANTINTI UPSET AT MULAGO CHESS OPEN 31st / 12/ 2010.

Veteran Chess Star Shadrack Kantinti suffered a shock defeat to
youngster David Muwanguzi(Mulago Rooks) in the Sixth round of the
Annual Mulago Open Chess Championships at Lugogo yesterday.

The win saw Muwanguzi share the lead with Kantinti with four rounds to
go in the ten round event which ends on friday. The pair are half a
point ahead of other players who include Harold Wanyama, the strongest
yet to win his maiden title of this event.Top seed Kawuma Patrick is
trailing in fifth position after a series of draws and an upset in
round three by on form and tournament surprise Muwanguzi David.

Record two time winner Bob Gilbert Bibasa also trails the pack by two
two points in what appears to be an uphill battle to get into the
prize bracket. He only managed to score 1.5 points out of four;
suffering defeat to Elijah Emojong and Walter Okas as the event enters
it's penultimate rounds.

round six, in second position is Namaganda Christine at 4.5 points
while early pace setter Rita Nansove and Grace Kigeni tie at 4.5 in
third position.

This years edition has attracted fifty strong players who will battle
for the top accolades in the open Category as well as the ladies
Category as the UCF chess calendar comes to an end. The event is
sponsored by national coach Dr. George William Zirembuzi who ia also
mulago cuess club chairman.
