to Ubuntu Furry Remix discussion
okay, im calling for a restructuring of the FurMix community. we need
to be more collective and productive and focus on one thing at a time.
and i feel like that one thing at this time should be the OS its self.
we should completely rethink the OS from the ground up while
maintaining its original concept. "an OS for furries, by furries."

1.ive been thinking maybe a different distro of Linux would better
suit FurMix. maybe PCLOS or KDE... perhaps ubuntu is best. we could
even start from scratch if everyone was up to the challenge (probably
not the best idea)... let me know what yall think.

2.we currently have a website but i think we should plug-in with fur-
space and F4L to create a feed for news and updates and such, kind of
like all the companies and groups do on face book...although i don't
want to use face book for the simple reason of independence. the furry
community is about being open, free and independent, as is Linux.

3. a goal list. we need to place a list of current goals to accomplish
on the web site to better organize our efforts. and either focus on
one single thing collectively or, divide smaller tasks up among all of
us.

4. COMMUNICATION. i cant emphasize enough how important communication
is. we need to come up with a fast easy way to communicate our ideas
and issues. witch will speed up things a lot more. and keep people
motivated towards the project.

5. advertisement, we should advertise. place an ad on FA, furspace,
e621, F4L ect. maybe set up a booth at cons, give out free copies to
show off our work and help generate more team members and more users.
and to help really get the name out to the fandom.

6. stay on task, we wont get anything done if everyone keeps going off
on their own projects. like android skins and KDE ports. although
these are awesome ideas, i think we are better off to stick with one
project at a time.

so right now thats where we stand. any and all ideas are encouraged.
we really need to step it up.

foxes rule :P

update on my previous message!
I just read th logs form the las IRC meeting and
I don’t think we need to merge with creatureS we can just as easily use our
name as theirs. its not that I don’t like creatureS I just don’t think a
merge is best for our ideas and concepts. I think we can do better as an
independent team we just need to create our name and get to work on
something. as ive just learned our team name is Openfur
that sounds good to me. but we are still in a dilemma on our OS name. I
think we should do an OS no just a distro.
anthrOS I think is a great name. I think we should refrain from using other
languages on our names since it will be harder for people to remember. we
should have something people will remember easily.

No, it's the codename of CreatureS team and official name of the merged team.
By the way, we have no common ideas and concepts written in stone. At the moment, everyone has their own ideas and ideals. Probably we shall set a specific ultimate goal towards which we're headed?

But REALLY we're not making a new OS, we're making a distro. Users don't really care, but geeks do care. And geeks are the primary source of contributors, so we'll have to put some sugar for them too. Ideally get rid of any "OS" or "distro" in the name I guess.

You're heading to the same trap that CreatureS have already explored years ago. Ubuntu has 60% of desktop market share after all, and for a good reason. The next three places are occupied by purely geekish stuff - Debian, Gentoo and Arch.
Besides, changing base distro means that we'll have to waste a lot effort on simply porting existing achievements there. And we'll have to look for a packager.

Sounds like a good idea. Hmm, we already have one, don't we? Blueprints can be targeted to specific series or release, and assigned to specific individuals. Sounds good enough.
And we'll need a statement of purpose, too.

4. COMMUNICATION. i cant emphasize enough how important communication

Agreed.

Well, I can't see any harm in making a KDE port. Some part of the community will always work on the core and there always will be "adapters" that have specific knowledge others don't have, e.g. how to customize KDE desktop. You know, people that know how to customize KDE are unlikely to know how to customize GNOME. So forcing everybody to work on the core probably won't work; any forcing is unlikely to work at all because being forced to do something you don't like is not fun. So there's no need to discourage ports and spinoffs IMO.

I'm working with you in "So I'll leave any formal positions and won't feel obligated to do anything
