Hello everyone!
Our new bootsreen [concept] has just hit PPA. It's plymouth-theme-ufurmix-pawprints package.
You can see a rough demo with flickery animation here (it shouldn't be flickering when installed). It also might now work in 16-color mode (virtual machines, etc.) by now, some text also may be not displayed correctly. It's uploaded to Lucid, but works for Maverick as well.

Silence? You mean, it really doesn't crash the system and print lots of profanity to the terminal? Or simply nobody tried it out?

Thanks for your reply! Does the animation appear smooth or flickery? How many differen pawprints do you see during boot time?

Hello,
I tested this on Maverick and I have to say I don't like it. I have other concept, I think you should get orginal ububtu plymouth theme and replace dots by blinking paws. Ubuntu logo should be larger than on orginal theme.
I saw all paws on system shutdown, but I saw only one on booting, but this happens on orginal bootscreen to (dots aren't animating). It's propably because my graphics card open drivers are still in early development (ATI dropped support for my card since 8.04).

greets
Adam

Thanks! Your idea sounds simple to implement, I'll try and see how it turns out. Actually, I don't like Ubuntu current splash, that lame progress indicator [and they should have stayed with USplash for such a simple splash, using Plymouth for THAT is just ridiculous]. This also makes text messages and 16-color mode a bit of a problem. I'll post a screencast as soon as I get this working.

I've made the bootscreen show messages correctly. It's uploaded to PPA already. Screencast available at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5279564/Ufurmix-plymouth-text-support.mkv

I've updated the bootscreen, animation now looks smoother and pawprints appear with a fade-in effect.
