Why PHP?

I am making an online equipment booking system as part of my final year
degree in multimedia. I have been trying to find good reasons for picking
PHP over ASP etc. but am finding it hard to come up with any reasons apart
from the fact that its fast, cheap and relativly easy to code. Does anyone
have any good solid pro's and cons of PHP that might help me in making my
decision? Also I have been told that it is not too good with session
handling but can't find any evidence of this, is it true or not?
