Confessions of a HEAL Officer!

How I Became a Part of HEAL

My first summer as a freshman, Joseph and I sat around figuring out how we could get involved. Another friend invited us to a volunteer event at Hope Lodge hosted by HEAL, so we decided to go. The volunteer event itself was eye-opening and gratifying, however, there was something else that really got us hooked into being active in HEAL. Actually, someone else.  An officer with her charm and looks caught our eye. Who exactly? It doesn’t matter. The point is that something as simple as trying to woo a girl can lead to many more opportunities. Before I knew it, my closest friends rooted from HEAL, including that girl. After my first year as a HEAL member, I became even more engraved into HEAL by becoming a Treasurer for the next two years. I’d glad HEAL has been apart of my college career thus far. HEAL has given me a comfort zone in college. HEAL is kept me from going crazy from the constant studying I have to do. HEAL has taught me responsibility. Let anything be your motivation… even if it’s as simple as wanting to talk to a girl.

P.S: My 21st is on April 3rd! I like candy. And money. ;)

How Sports Can Benefit You in More Ways than One

Hello everyone, I’m the sports coordinator or better known as “The Brown Mamba” aka “Young Vino”. I’ve been playing sports since I could remember and what I did remember was that I was always happy when playing sports. I just want to share with you all, how sports can make a difference in a person’s college experience.

College can be extremely stressful especially due to tests that always seem to be around the corner. During these times anyone can get extremely stressed out and this can hurt you without even knowing it. Stress can lead to a lot of medical conditions such and will overall get you in a bad mood. People deal with stress in a lot of different methods. My preferable method is to play basketball whenever I feel that I’m become too caught up in one thing. When I play basketball, my mind starts to ease and I start to think about only one thing, how to win. Before I know it, I feel better about myself and can resume studying or finishing up school work. So not only have I distressed myself, but I’ve also refocused myself.

So there’s my secret to success, but it doesn’t have to be basketball. You can choose whatever makes you relieved. The reason why I chose sports is because it can also get you into shape. Once you start moving around and becoming more active, your blood starts to circulate a lot and you start to experience good vibes. On top of that, you’re building muscle and burning fat and end up looking and feeling better.

Matter of fact, I feel stressed out right now, I think I might go hit the gym. Bye!

Manuel Britto
Sports Coordinator
