Recap of the Year!

It is finally over!!! We are sad to see you all go, but we hope that you guys will return to us soon! It has been a tremendous year filled with unforgettable memories and remarkable accomplishments! We have done so much in just one year from the Health Point system to the creation of our monthly newsletter. We were also fortunate enough to host our FIRST medical mission trip to Ecuador. It was all thanks to our former external affairs officer and future president, Leon Chen. Thank you for a successful trip. It would not be possible without all of your hard work. To our seniors, we will miss you dearly! Good luck to you all and your future endeavors. Also, a huge thank you to our members and all the support you have shown us throughout the year!

Have a great summer everyone! We hope to see you all during Summer B or in the Fall.

Confessions of a HEAL Officer!

The Cactus

If I can describe my past three years with HEAL using one object of meaning, I would represent it with a cactus. Yes, because that is the party favor they gave during my last formal. And no, that is not the only reason.

The cactus flower symbolizes endurance, the ability to stand up to the test of time and overcome many elements. While I can barely run three miles anymore, I had lasted three years with HEAL as an e-board member. The journey as a rising officer was tough and arduous. I was dumbfounded when I became secretary, but through mistakes and questions I learn how to do my job well. Through vice-president I was able to explore the many elements of HEAL. Lastly, as president I was able to raise above all occasion to lead my officers to an extordinary chapter of HEAL. I would say the lessons I learned in HEAL gave me the strength to carry through, even beyond HEAL. It had taught me how to be a leader, the power of friendship, the meaning of inspiration, and ultimately helped me find my true passion – being a physician.

Although I am leaving, I encourage you all to stay involved with HEAL. With the accomplishments we made this year – mission trip, concessions, health point system and more – it is bound to get better from here!

Sincerely,

Thanhnga Doan
President 2012-2013

Words of Wisdom

It’s that time my lovely HEALers: time to say farewell! Before I leave, I’ll give all of you some words of wisdom.

1) BE YOURSELF. I honestly was very insecure as a freshman; I tried my best to seem cool and hid my crazy. Now, I don’t really care about that anymore. Sometimes I’m derpy and loud, but I wouldn’t have made such good friends with everyone if it weren’t for my personality. Besides, I’d rather be weird than pretend to be someone else.
2) LOOK BACK, BUT NEVER WISH TO CHANGE YOUR PAST. I have so many regrets (especially in the academic department), but every time I look back and ponder what would happen if I had done this instead of that…. I realize I would not have met the wonderful people or experienced all the beautiful experiences during my college career. My decisions and mistakes make me, me!
3) NEVER FORGET WHY YOU ARE HERE. Remember to study and always give yourself at least 2-4 hours for your schoolwork. Don’t waste your time; you are here for a reason!

I can’t really think of anything else... So, see you later HEAL! Thank you for all the beautiful memories!
