Geography text is now viewable. However, where did custom and
attribute text go? I formated the SD card used for the download,
downloaded the multimedia -again, reinstalled BirdNA 9.9.1 zip, used
ufg installer 9.9.2 and created and linked token.html. Geography is
now viewable, but custom and attribute text is not viewable? Help???

It may help to think of the ufg application as simply a view window
displaying SD card data.

If the ufg application is not displaying custom and attribute data, is
it possible, after the reformatting of your SD card, that the
attribute and custom directories (i.e., subdirectories of the /ufg/
birds_of_North_America/text directory) are no longer on your SD card?
If that's the case, you can revive them by re-unzipping the birds of
NA topic text to your SD card.

Thanks for getting back so promptly. The reformatting of the SD card
erased all data! I started over from Sq1, all directories, and
subdirectories are on the card The linking was confirmed and approved
and a token link file was created. The card and text are viewable
and a card reader confirms all files have readable text.

I re-unzipped BNA to the card and still no text. I had better luck
with ufg-installer 1, all files and text were viewable, except,
geography.

Any help possible?

I don't fully understand the problem you are seeing at this point. Is
it that you are missing the geography text (i.e., description of BCRs)
in the geography list?

Greg,

Thanks again for not letting the water rise too high. I've put in
enough time to turn ghostly, -ha ha, no sleep, keyboarding,
downloading and the problems just turn into something else. I view
less and less of the application thru my Treo (no attributes, no
custom, no text in either of those files); geography is viewable. All
files and text are viewable/readable thru the reader/writer. I don't
understand the problem either?

Maybe a new download file on the ftp site? I'm ready to give it a
rest for a while.

Typically, getting the ufg application to display information (e.g.,
attribute list) is a matter of copying the information to your SD card
and selecting the ufg application's class list's 'select/link' menu
item to link the application, topic multimedia, and topic text
together. Did you select the link menu item?

Greg,

Thanks again for your help. I have linked before and after unzipping
the BNA_zip. The token link created comes back with a correct and
incorrect checksum. Is it preferrable to unzip BNA to the ufg before
or after linking, -or does it matter?

Selecting the class list's 'select/link' menu item before unzipping
the topic text does no harm and does no good: the ufg application
links to files that are on your SD card, not to files that are in a
zipped file on your PC. So, selecting the class list's 'select/link'
menu item _after_ unzipping the topic text is the recommended order.

The link token is another issue. The link token is the means by which
I get an overview of how often features (e.g., etymology viewer, photo
viewer) in the ufg application are used. The ufg application
increments feature use counters stored on your SD card. To encourage
users to submit those feature use counters, the ufg application does
not link to the free topic text unless the user has submitted the
feature use counters formatted as a link token file to the form at
http://eduneer.com/ssl/form/token.html. The purpose of the checksum
is to help prevent the user from accidentally or intentionally
modifying the contents of the feature use counter information in the
link token file. The link token enables the 'select/link' menu item
to link to the free topic text information for 30 days. Of course,
the 'select/link' menu item is typically used only after a user adds
new field guide information to the SD card. And once that information
is linked, it remains linked until the next selection of the 'select/
link' menu item (regardless of whether or not the link token has
expired its 30 day limit.) Because the link token is stored on the SD
card, it lasts for 30 days even if the ufg application is deleted and
reinstalled.

Hi Greg,

I picked one of your dated comments to reply.

UFG (9.9.2) was working fine, I got the icons and links so they produced when asked.  I got ambitious and also installed the SI app.   When I got to the field (ZionNP and Bryce in Utah) I tried commenting in the SI, -the linking all worked.

However, the more I learned about my area (the Colorado Plateau) -I also learned some of my SI comments were inappropriate.   I tried editing the comments (a csv/text file) with DOCS TO GO [v8.005 (239) -DataViz]  but could only edit the text.  So I deleted the comments!

OOPS, that also caused the UFG check/project link to stop working.  All the UFG components (icons) are viewable and produce.

The link token is the means by which I get an overview of how often
features (e.g., etymology viewer, photo viewer, the SI and any other
feature that you [Greg] want to count
) in the ufg application (or linked to the
ufg app
) are used.

Several questions:  Besides handholding, -do I need anything from you to get check/project working, -in the field?  Do I start over with a new UFG_link check sum, and reinstall SI?  Should I edit my comments only with a native csv editing program?

I am excited about the program [UFG and BNA (Birds)].  I had hoped I could edit the csv -in the field.  Damn, I want my TREO 755p smartphone to be able to do it all.

It keeps me in touch, Altho service (voice and data) is spotty.  I can get your email.

Thanks, Joe

I started a new thread (i.e., editing SI comments) for the new
question.
