I'm using a Treo 755p with an SD card. I've copyied the ufg &
directories to the SD card. I've installed and run both the UFG-
installer and Peck-installer.prc. However, the Peck doesn't link to
the directories for the AOU list mode crashes the Treo. I've cleaned
up the SD, reinstalled the directories, installed and run new UFG &
Peck .prc's and the tokens in Peck's don't link to the UFG?

The BIM_UserMan lists the order and method of installation, but I
still don't get the links?

Help with the install please.

It looks like you've tried the a la carte approach to installation.
(I'm wondering where you found the old copies of the Peck application
installer and the Peck bird information manager manual.) I think
you'll have better results if you decide to use either the Peck bird
information manager or the universal field guide, and don't mix their
applications, multimedia, and manuals. I recommend the universal
field guide. Therefore, instead of reading the Peck bird information
manual, use the universal field guide manual at http://eduneer.com/ufg/ufgpau.pdf

Greg.

Thanks for the prompt reply. How was your run? OK, I purchased the
BofNA (UFG_multimedia) via download (NM). Can I purchase your Peck SD
via download, I like the described Alm & Chm features, Buy Now? Am I
right to think they compliment each other? Is there a lat/long
location entry, it may help locating on the range map?

OK, so on my reinstall I will just use the recommended universal field
guide (prc). UFG is about a Gig, Now I'm up to a 8G
(SU08G_20F14608800607) card on my 755p.

Thanks for the info.

Greg,

Thanks again for the direction. It really was a help! I think I have
all the references, I'm going thru the UM now.

I had to reinstall the ufg_prc the token link checksum didn't work the
first couple of times. It was compensated by our BBQ cook out, -
porterhouse, sweet corn-on-the-cob, and a salad!

Is there a way of displaying lat/long to mark a position of view on
the Map? Can it be manually entered?

A run is always a highlight of a day, especially during the pleasant
spring and fall weather.

The Peck bird information manager is a predecessor, not a complement,
to the universal field guide. In theory, it is possible to install
both of them and switch back and forth. In practice, I reused some
database names when I wrote the universal field guide, and that causes
conflicts between the two applications. Fortunately for those who
want to compare the applications, it takes only a couple minutes to
delete one and reinstall the other.

The alarm and chime features were left out of the universal field
guide as I prepared to port the application to other operating
systems. Once that porting is finished, I'll go back and revive
features like the alarm, that are heavily dependent on the OS.

There is no lat/lng method to determine your Bird Conservation Region,
but Bird Conservation Regions are rather large and the crude map is
usually sufficient. For logging sightings, lat/lng data is collected
if a GPS receiver is available.

I hope that helps.

Greg,

Thanks for the prompt help!

I see the LLC is working on "Tangled". Will Tangled offer a lat/long
point of reference to the map feature? It would be easier to
determine if I were in a "range" (date & place) to observe specific
bird/s.

Working the keyboard is lonely, tedious, grueling and can be a
physical punishment (Carpel Tunnel/RSI)! Outside is good.

My wife and I are off to south west & central Utah (Zion, Bryce,
Escalante, Capital Reef till Trick or Treat. UFG will be put to good
use.

Thanks again.

Hi Joe,

The guide application is focused on large scale geography (e.g., Bird
Conservation Regions).

The species inventory application is focused on small scale geography
(e.g., local trails).

The two applications are integrated.
