Greetings All,

MILITARY PARK

THE CITY DELIVERS THE STATE OF THE CITY

We advocate for the children of Newark Public Schools in several capacities. We as teachers, parents, grandparents and community members must come together. The "proposed" changes in Newark Public Schools must not be looked at as inevitable. Instead, we must show that we recognize what is happening in Newark and will fight the best fight to prevent ALL children from being left behind. As we move forward and fight against the chronic underfunding of our schools and displacement of our children, we need to stay focused on something: the strength that lies in our UNITY. Our power will be in a consistent presence both inside of the schools and out. Gone are the days of claiming to work towards the same cause while embracing actions and behaviors that continue to create division within our ranks as advocates!

During the 2010 State of the City Address, Cory Booker told Newark:

"I lobbied the largest education funders from around the nation, from the Gates Foundation, to the Walton Foundation, to create a new groundbreaking philanthropic effort. [He] proposed they combine their efforts and make a massive investment to grow charter schools of excellence in one American city"

HE WARNED US !

Now their intentions have truly begun to take shape. The "leaked" report made by Global Education Advisors and Dan Gohl, contains language that speaks to the disposability of Newark Public Schools-its spaces, students, and teachers-and Booker's overwhelming committment to charter schools.

At the same time, the report spoke to the community power that lies in this city. Several times, in the category of POTENTIAL CHALLENGES, GEA said they may "trigger community-parent-principal PUSHBACK."

THEY SAW US COMING !

Let us begin our latest round of PUSHBACK as Cory Booker delivers another State of the City Address.
The REVOLUTIONARY CITY of NEWARK must remind Mayor Booker, that while we know his State of the City Speech will be televised, OURS WILL TOO:
