At today’s Green Team Captain’s meeting I suggested that a reduction in energy usage by any particular unit on campus might equate to reduced RCM costs for that unit.
I have since learned that the RCM model is not so simple and this idea is as naïve as it is incorrect.
(Silly Scientist).
However, I am still interested in obtaining KWH and water usage data for my unit’s buildings with an eye towards achieving reductions.
I would appreciate contact from the folks at PPD on this list-serv that can direct me to these data. Judging by the comments at today’s meeting, I gather other Green Team Captains would also like to find out how to get such information for their departments. Thus, I encourage anyone replying with this information to share it with the group.
My thanks to Matt, Michael, and the rest of the Office of Sustainability for today’s meeting and lunch.
Best,

Rob/All,

Hey Rob,
You are right, today was a great meeting. If you are interested in obtaining KWH information within your building (and possibly others), I'd be happy to meet up to discuss how we can use the data. Before sending anything out to you, I'd need to know what building(s) you are talking about as well as the "density" of information you are looking for. Please feel free to either call me or send an email to d.ste...@ufl.edu<mailto:d.ste...@ufl.edu> . Thank you and keep up the good work that you are doing :)

I think it would be cool if we could get an easy way to see monthly data by building or college so we can do semester long challenges. Lets encourage colleges to see who can reduce consumption ~5-10% over historical (previous year semester).
Can we figure out the details and organize such a challenge for the spring?

Mark,
This is a nice idea.
I confess that after receiving our building energy data so promptly from our GT colleagues in PPD, and in such well-organized spreadsheets, I have essentially asked myself, “well, now what?”
Our recent trends seem to be predominately of decreasing energy use. No doubt in part due to new efficiencies rolled out by these same folks at PPD (I seem to recall major upgrades in certain systems funded with stimulus dollars – at least in our oldest building, Dickinson Hall).
These data are a good thing, no doubt, but not likely to be the ticket for inspiring significantly greater conservation. Maybe the inter-department competition you mention would be the trick. I’m certainly open to the idea, though mindful of not creating a large amount of new work for PPD in terms of fielding a huge increase in requests for building data.
Thoughts from anyone else?
Rob
