Please see the below information about a series of speakers coming to campus to speak on “civil” society and dialogue that you are all encouraged to attend.  We would like help spreading the word about our co-sponsored speaker with the Center for Humantities, Dan Kahan, and his lecture next Thursday, September 11 at 5:30PM in Smather’s Library East room 1A.

"Civil" Society? On the Future Prospects of Meaningful Dialogue - 2013-14 Speaker Series
Join the UF Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere for a series of six lectures organized to examine the obstacles and opportunities for constructive public dialogue on pressing political issues. The first lecture in the series is Democracy and the Science Communication Environment with Dan Kahan on September 11 at 5:30PM in Smathers Library (East), 1A. Kahan is the Elizabeth K. Dollard Professor of Law and Professor of Psychology at Yale Law School. Professor Kahan and his collaborators have investigated public disagreement over climate change, public reactions to emerging technologies, and conflicting public impressions of scientific consensus.
