‘How to smash your exams, a Muslim student's guide'

FOSIS London, Webinar By: Imran Ibn Mansur AKA Dawah Man

“Ya muhalimma dawud ‘alimn, wa ya mufahima sulaiman fahimni”

Oh one who thought Dawud, teach me and oh one who made Sulaiman understand, make me understand.

“Eating dates, Imam Muslim died because he choked on dates, while studying" subhanAllah.

Environment which you study = Do not study in a place where you chill out

“Go to library even if it’s for 1hour”

“Trues knowledge is that which in your heart”.

" the scholars say that the brain has been made by Allah in a way that the more you memorise the more easy it is to memorise"

"mental block= you haven't memories properly, there's no such thing as mental block if you have grasped the concept and it is engraved in your heart"
Three elements to change:
1. You need to have high standards- aim high! If you fall short, it doesn’t matter
2. You need to have the belief you can attain it!
3. You need to have the correct strategy: tactics to accomplish goals. The best way to do this is to have a role model.
Ibn Taymiyyah was known as sheikh al Islaam. After the sahabah and salaf he is seen as the beacon on knowledge. Therefore we should take him as a role model.
"memories the key concepts rather than the text"
"memorization-the scholars say knowledge is that which is in the chest (mind)...because that means you actually understand it"
"wake up at fajr time with enough time for quranic memorisation- this will train your brain for memorisation, this way when it comes to exams it will become very easy for you to memorise and remember, things gradually become more and more easy"
"a pious man/woman should be more stingy with their time, like the rich man is stingy with his money"
"set half an hour a day to memorise quran just like you do for other things such as the gym etc - do it at fajr- as this is the best time to memorise"
"a man will not move until he is asked four questions one of them is what did you do with your time"
"third part of the night- best time to revise-memorise"
"you're brain can't concentrate for more than 20-40 minutes, so have breaks "
" you don't have to have a break every 20 minutes- just do according to what works best for you if you need a break take one, if you don't then carry on"
"best time to generally do work- after fajr- so much barakah at that time"
"make preparation"

"sleeping- time your sleep cycle, don't need more than 4 and half hours of sleep in the night...and then have a nap at dhur, however if you want you can sleep 6 hours- all together, don't waste your time, wake up for fajr, for tahajjud, for memorization, revision "

Sleep 20min: power nape

"time management- is all about managing your sleep"
"there are certain things that hinder your memorization one of them is your sins"
"I took power naps DURING my exams..." LOOOOL
"try and reduce/cut out sins, such as music, watching haram things, surfing inappropriate things on the internet "
"ikhlas- you need to have sincerity"
"make the intention to do everything for the sake of Allah"
"once a week discuss your notes- when you discuss you engage in conversation- "
"just by you speaking your minds becomes active- discussing is a great way to understand"
"you must be patient with knowledge- this is the key thing"
"if you want to get a first, you want to be successful, you want to be a leader. Be patient, sincere and be certain that Allah will grant you this"
"People like the idea of gaining knowledge but they don’t want to do it (patience)"
"Procrastination- is the trait of the people in hell fire- ibn qayyim"
"Understand what brings you pain an what brings you pleasure - you will be able to understand why you procrastinate"
"on paper- write down the pain you will feel if you don't do your work/exam...then write down the pleasure if you set out what you planned to set out...do this every day in the morning and before you sleep.so that when you try to procrastinate- this will remind you as to why you SHOULD NOT PROCRASTINATE"
"Revise with that friend to study with or take advise from them- that individuality who is getting a first in their exams/assignments-sit in their presence-get an idea of what they do"
"Academics is very important and we need to take it seriously!"
"if you're going to study in your house find somewhere where there's no distraction, try going to the library....or even the masjid"

4.5hours to 6 hours

Why do I need to study: why? Why?, my why need to be strong, leave the rest to Allah.

If you want the audio, just email back and i will send it to you inshallah.

Assalam Alaykum
