Hi Upper Echelon Team Members!

I apologize for the previous email that was cut off.  My email client seemed to be mad at me for sending a long email!

As you may already know, the team is undergoing some transitions.  Russell has accepted a full-time position with ZoomCare as the director of their new Wellness division. We will be restructuring the team into its own entity, separate from the business - which remains in place, but is going back to what it does best: providing the highest-level online coaching for fitness and performance.

Upper Echelon is not dispersing, combusting, or disappearing.  We still exist, and we hope to make things bigger and better in the coming year.

With the changes, comes a transition in leadership and we have decided to form a small committee to manage the team.

This committee consists of:

Russell Cree
Joe Kim
Mike Kender
Rogier Ducloo
Brian Marcroft
Jeff Parker
Jennifer Haliewicz

We held our first leadership meeting this past Thursday evening, and have decided some key things:

1. The team will maintain its structure as a racing team, with both a Master's Men and Women's team.

a. Feel free to recommend potential    new team members - we want to grow as we restructure!

2. Major team decisions will be made by way of democratic majority vote by the leadership committee.

3. We will consider applying for non-profit status, as well as seeking out a potential cause to race for - e.g. Cancer Research.

4.  Requirements for team membership will remain the same:

a. Be an ambassador to the sport. You don’t have to be the fastest, but be an ambassador. Have fun, smile, help new riders, be a positive role model and inspiration for cycling.

b. Support team sponsors.

c. Race for the team all year, all disciplines. We expect full commitment.

d. Aspire to race at least 15 times, and do 10 club rides. We are a racing team, we expect you to race.

e. Don’t be a jerk. This includes the internet, Facebook, OBRA list, team list, etc.

f. Purchase at least one UEFR Team jersey and bibs per year.

g. No talls socks at ‘cross races. Ironic sunglasses are tolerated.

h. Embrace the team spirit. On and off the bike. Be a team player. Keep it classy.

5.  Our team kit will be black for the coming year - more to come on this front very soon.

6.  We will hold consistent weekend rides both in Portland and the Gorge.  We plan to have these structured well in advance, like last year, so that there is no confusion.

7.  We want to plan for team outings, for example: team mountain bike trips, doing The Dalles Mountain 60, etc.

8.  We will hold meetings more regularly (as a whole, and as separate men's and women's teams), and hope to better facilitate communication so as to accommodate people's busy schedules.

Over the coming weeks, we hope to flesh out some more of these ideas into action.

In addition, we would love to see all your happy, smiling faces in person, and are tentatively planning a team meeting for the first week of December.  We want to get together to regroup, see everyone in the same room, and discuss some of the changes.  We also want to know who is committed to the team for next year, and wants to be part of a great team for the 2015 season!

Please, let us know if there are any suggestions, questions, comments, or concerns.  This is your team, and we want to make it the best it can be for everyone.

Thanks!

Jennifer Haliewicz

Thank you Jennifer!  That's a good recap.  It's a good opportunity to take the group to the next level for teamwork and support next year. Looking forward to this!  Thanks!

Russell

Sounds awesome! What to do with all those tall socks Marcroft gave me though?

Excellent suggestion.  The Devo boys also like the cutoff jean shorts too.  Russell could donate his pairs of those at the same time.

Doesn't say tall socks are banned for track.
