9:30am tomorrow morning, the temperature is forecasted to be around 30F. The wind chill will take ~10 degrees off that. The overnight low will be ~27F. A lot warmer than predicted earlier but still cold enough for there to be ice on the road.
I am riding tomorrow morning. Everyone is welcome to join me but even more so than normal, you're riding at your own risk. Give more space than normal. Stay off the the lines (Ask Grabski what happens when you don't). Dress warm.
I am heading to Sauvie and will do at least 1 lap around. If you want to skip Hwy 30, join me at the Sauvie store around 9:50am. We won't we stopping there so be ready to go when you see us coming over the bridge.
A general note on winter riding... Ensure your bike is in good condition. When it's raining, put on full fenders. Wet and wintery conditions are hard on tires. The probability of a flat tire is materially higher. This is the time to put on some new tires. No one wants to stand on the side of the road changing a tire, or watching someone else do so, when it's 30F and/or raining out. Conti Gran Prix 4-season or Schwalbe Durano's are good choices. I like riding 25s, especially in the winter. The smaller shorter contact surface seems to reduce flats.
When you do get a flat, as long as the group is relatively small, we will likely stop. When the group gets larger, we won't. You're on your own. The Sauvie ride is nice in that it's easy to catch back on. If you flat on 30, continue to the island and proceed counter clockwise around. At some point you'll see the group coming towards you. Turn around and catch back on. Same is true when it happens on the island, except that on the second lap we'll include the out and backs. Depending on where you flat, it may be better to continue on clockwise and catch the group on the return from the dead-end.
When: Tomorrow, 930am
Where: UEFR
To: Sauvie
Tomorrow will be the last time we're meeting at UEFR. Next week we'll meet at a coffee shop nearby instead.
