3rd Symposium of Infectious Diseases in Africa:
Measurement of Immune Responses and 4th African Flow Cytometry Workshop: Detection of Antigen-Specific T Cells
We are pleased to inform you that two exciting scientific events will take place in November 2011
in Cape Town, South Africa, organized by the Institute of Molecular Medicine, University of Cape
Town and Duke University.
The first event is a two-day symposium: “3rd Infectious Diseases in Africa symposium:
Measurement of Immune Responses” and will take place on 12-13 November 2011. The aims
of the symposium are: a) to bring leading international scientists in the field of TB, Malaria and
HIV together with young African investigators to discuss the latest immunology concepts and
measurement of cellular immunity to these diseases and b) to provide an opportunity for young
African investigators to present their research findings to experts in the field and to facilitate
collaborative research opportunities.
The second event is the “4th African Flow Cytometry Workshop: Detection of Antigen-
Specific T Cells” that will immediately follow the symposium from 14-18 November 2011. This
workshop will allow 12 scholars to receive an in-depth hands-on training on the most recent
techniques in multiparameter flow cytometry assays and to analyze and interpret complex sets of
data.
For consideration to attend these events, you will need to submit an abstract of your work and
complete the attached submission form. Scholarships will be awarded to 12 investigators who
submit outstanding abstracts allowing them to attend both the symposium and workshop.
Abstract submissions are now open until 12 September 2011. Please find enclosed the abstract
submission guidelines and submission form.
For more information and abstract submissions, please contact or send to the meeting
