We are recruiting a highly motivated PhD student who wants to pursue fundamental research on chromatin-based mechanisms of gene regulation and transposon silencing.

The Project:
Heterochromatin is critical for chromosome function and genome stability. It ensures accurate chromosome segregation, restrains the activity of mobile elements and restricts lineage inappropriate gene expression. The successful candidate will determine the biological role and molecular mechanisms of an ATP dependent chromatin remodelling complex in these processes using mouse embryonic stem cells and their differentiated derivatives as model systems. What we are looking for:
Required are a Masters Degree or equivalent in Biochemistry, Cell biology, Molecular Biology (or similar subjects), and a research background. Previous lab experience is essential and proficiency in bioinformatics or chromatin biology an advantage.

Methoden:
Our group at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Tumorbiology (IMT) of the Philipps-University in Marburg combines biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, including epigenome technology (ChIP, CRISPR, RNA-seq and bioinformatics), to dissect the epigenetic basis of cell identity and understand its mis-regulation in diseases. We are associated with a transregional, collaborative chromatin research network (DFG TRR81; Bad Nauheim, Giessen, Marburg, Rotterdam) aimed at obtaining a deep molecular understanding of chromatin changes in Differentiation and Malignancies.
