ROTARY DAR MARATHON, Friday 14th OCTOBER 2016
UDSM CONVOCATION
Dear Staff, Alumni and Friends of the University of Dar s Salaam,
With all due respect and honour, I carry to you the good news about a ROTARY DAR MARATHON—an characteristically jovial and health-sporting event—that will take place on Friday, 14th October 2016, the day that is revered nationally as Nyerere Day.
This is a specially touching event which, apart from its emotional mementos, will be directing its fundraising efforts to the support of the University of Dar es Salaam’s establishment of a campus Teaching Hospital alongside the College of Health Science now already in place.
Registration of participants in the event will begin on Saturday 24th September at any of the seven “local registration centres”, namely
§ UDSM Main (Mwl. JKN) campus
§ Water Development and Management Institute (WDMI) – University Road, Ubungo;
§ Eastern Africa Statistical Training Centre (EASTC) – Changanyikeni, off University Road;
§ Ardhi University;
§ Mlimani City Shopping Mall – Sam Nujoma/University Road;
§ Tumaini University Dar es Salaam College (TUDARCo); and
§ Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) – Muhimbili.
Those who register at any of these centres will have to be given a T-Shirt for the occasion, upon their contribution of TSh. 30,000/= (for adults) and TSh. 10,000/= (for students and younger).
The starting point will be in the grounds of Greens Hotel/Serviced Apartments at Oysterbay by the Bagamoyo/Obama Road. The starting time will generally be between 06:00 and 07:00 am, depending on the mode. The three-component running/cycling/walking modes, and specific timingsare as described below:
Events: 21.1 km half marathon challenge, 21.1km bike challenge, 9km walk, 5km walk and a 1K walk for special needs children. There’s something for everyone and plenty of prizes to be won!
Date: Friday, 14 October 2016 (Nyerere Day)
Time: 21.1KM Half Marathon will start at 6.15am, 21.1KM Cycling Race will start at 6.30am, 9KM and 5KM will start at 7.00am. Please plan to be there half an hour early.
Venue: The Green, Kenyatta Drive

The theme for the event is “Healing Lives; Transforming Communities”and the mission is “To provide the residents of Dar es Salaam with a multi-disciplinary teaching hospital that will provide high-quality and cost-effective health care services.” The project is a brainchild of “The Rotary Clubs of Dar es Salaam in Partnership with Bank M (T) Ltd.”
