Shahara Khatun.

The joint press conference of Indian and Bangladeshi home ministers on Friday presented a rather intriguing situation.

Bangladesh minister Shahara Khatun spoke only in Bengali and responded in the same language to questions posed in English.

In the absence of an interpreter, Khatun's words were lost on most media persons and perhaps even her Indian counterpart P. Chidambaram.

Thankfully, the Bangladesh home secretary offered to translate into English one particular remark made by Khatun on the handover of Anup Chetia.
