Making a Table's caption

Hi,

I am compiling my chapters into a main Tex file.  I have found that when I wrap the tabular environment with a table, to create a caption, this causes the compile to abort with an error.  When I remove the table environment and the caption everything works out. 

What is the workaround or how can I find the example of the workaround for this?
