All,
We have about 50 UCDC students whose internships have been suspended due to the shut-down and we feel terrible for them. As you can imagine, they are very disappointed that two weeks have now passed without being able to intern… that is 20% of the quarter and if this continues, this quarter may be a wasted one for them, not to mention the money that it cost for them to purchase their plane tickets plus the higher DC rent and professional attire. The semester students are affected too but not by as much of a percentage of their time here fortunately.
We have been trying to find ways to keep them engaged and optimistic and have planned a special lunch for them on Monday, Oct. 14th to hopefully meet and talk with alumni who have also been furloughed. This will be a wonderful way for alumni to give back to the students while also engaging in a meaningful activity.
I have high-jacked a few of your FB groups, but can I ask that you all send this note/invitation out to your members via email and/or newsletter? Every single campus has students who have been affected and I’m sure your alumni would want to help out in any way that they can… and get a free meal!
Thanks so much for your support on this! Please let me know if you have any questions and please feel free to RSVP if you’ve been furloughed.
Regards,
Veronica
There are approximately 50 UCDC students whose internships have been suspended because of the shut-down. The UC Washington Center staff are working to provide them with alternate programs and activities and have scheduled a career advice lunch on Monday, October 14th with alumni who have also been furloughed. If you would like more information about this lunch and/or plan to attend please click here. Space is limited to the first twenty (20) alumni who sign up. Thank you!
