This is not my first rodeo building LFS. The last time I built LFS was based on Gerard Beekmans' Book version 12.0. He just released the latest version 12.4 dated 1 September 2025.

I have started building LFS again for the third time using my Acer Aspire i7 4-core (8-thread) CPU with 12 GB of SDRAM and a 1TB NVMe M.2 hard drive. This meets the minimum requirements for a successful build. The host Linux distro of choice was Gentoo Live USB version which I downloaded and created using MX Linux USB Maker to build the bootable USB of the Live USB version itself. This distro was chosen mainly because Gentoo is known for having all of its packages installed from source. Thus, the distro is built for that purpose.

I started building about 4 to 5 hours of build time ago and am currently at Chapter 8.8: Installing Basic System Software as (lfs chroot).

If anyone is interested, I have created an lfs-setup-guide in .md format that walks you through the steps of building lfs. You still have to do the heavy lifting of manual building of the lfs, but the guide assists you in that process. See the attached.

Happy building!
