Hey, y'all! Our monthly meeting is next week, March 8 at 18:30 on

https://meet.jit.si/sclugs

Topic: "What is Your Raspberry Pi Doing?"

Volunteers will have 5 - 10 minutes to demo/show/tell what they are
using their RPi for.

The tentative agenda is:

Darrell Lee - Webmin
Andy Carabino - Plane Tracking
Andy Carabino - Weather Station (possibly?)
Dan Calloway - Blog
Dan Calloway - NAS

This is a much smaller list than I was hoping, so if you're using a
RPi, please consider joining and showing it off. You could demo by
screensharing, webcam, photos, or pre-recorded video. I've heard about
it used in home automation, routing, security, movie watching... So
I'm curious to know what my local peers actually _are_ using it for.
I've got 3 myself, 1 model A and 2 model Bs, and I hate that they're
in the closet collecting dust. Inspire me!

I plan to be on the Jitsi at 18:00, so if you'd like to do a mic
check, please join sometime thereafter.

Also, if you want to, feel free to mark that you plan to attend at:

Jas,

Sorry, but I am unable to do a presentation.  However I use pi-hole running on a pi-3 to filter out advertisements on my home network.  It does a good job!

Wish I had something to contribute but my RPIs are all in a box somewhere and gathering dust as I don't usually have much
brain power left for tinkering after work these days :)

One project  I had spent a little time on trying to get working for a guy I do some freelance for is a proximity detector

Basic idea was he wanted to be able to sniff for mac addresses and things while he was out at various tradeshows and
then be able to database those addresses to try to be able to offer some type of detection to be able to offer discounts or
something for potential new customers who later visited his website.

I never really got very far with this - so I really have ZERO to demonstrate unfortunately :)

I am not sure with all of the mobile changes the last couple years if it is really feasible any longer.

That's a shame, Vance. Pi-hole is one of the things I plan to do with
one of my RPis when I get the free time. I've heard a lot about it,
but have never actually seen it in use.

Vance,

I believe you're referring to using your Raspberry Pi as a Pi-Hole server. I ran the Pi-Hole server very effectively for several months until it started interfering with the miss's iPad searching and SmartTV watching. Apparently, I didn't have the blacklisting of adverts configured like I should have 100% and it began causing problems with accessing information that we wanted to see. Given sufficient time, I believe I could have rectified the situation without dropping Pi-Hole server altogether.

Jas,

I would like to also show Portainer running four or five docker images which were set up as stacks in Portainer and then deployed as docker containers. Won't take but a few  minutes. I'm not covering the blog and NAS in very great detail, so these should take but 5 minutes or so. I should have plenty of time. Let me know.

Reminder that details about tomorrow's meeting about Raspberry Pi
projects are below. If you didn't sign up, that's okay, just be ready
to present.

Lots of people show-and-telling lots of cool projects, I look forward
to your joining us!

Hey, y'all! Sorry I didn't announce on Tuesday but our monthly
meeting is next Tuesday, April 12 at 18:30 on

https://meet.jit.si/sclugs

Topic: "K3s on RPi Cluster" by Ben Francis

This should be interesting for those of us (like myself) that have
wanted to learn Kubernetes, especially if we don't have a lot of
money. Ben will be showing us his Raspberry Pi cluster with the K3s
Lightweight Kubernetes implementation.

Still meeting online-only, along with ColaLUG:

https://meet.jit.si/sclugs

...but hopefully we will get back to meeting in-person next month.

Also, if you want to, feel free to mark that you plan to attend at:

https://gettogether.community/events/17601/april-2022-k3s-on-rpi-cluster/

Jas,

Does the announcement that the UCLUG plans to meet in person in June, 2022 mark the end of the Jitsi meetings? If so, many of us who can't travel to attend regular monthly meetings will not be able to participate in them. Will there be an online presence at these meetings? Will these in-face meetings be recorded and uploaded to the UCLUG YT channel for geographically-separated members to view? Please let me know.

Yes — we’ve done the online meetup in tandem so that we can share with ColaLUG down in Columbia.  Both groups would meet at their respective locations and join the Jitsi.

And this was well before COVID, so no reason to not continue.

Even when in-person some of us had work or other obligations that would prevent us from showing up but not from joining the Jitsi.

Carabino,

So, YES, we will continue the Jitsi meetings even if meeting together physically, or YES, we will discontinue the Jitsi meetings, which was my original question? Your answer was unclear to me. Sorry if I misunderstood you.

:^)  To answer each of your questions, no, yes, and yes, respectively.
