hey all,

There's been an ongoing discussion over on the hackgreenville slack (as
that's pretty much coupled with the same folks who run Open Works where
the monthly meetings are currently held at) regarding the website and
things.

Just trying to communicate the same here, hopefully not stepping on
anyone's toes? just throwing this out for discussion

One idea that has been thrown out on slack is the idea of hosting the
website on github (or as I mention later gitlab since I think that one
is generally considered more "open source" once MS bought github)

https://docs.github.com/en/pages/getting-started-with-github-pages/creating-a-github-pages-site

This is the gitlab description but github does the same sort of thing

https://docs.gitlab.com/user/project/pages/
https://docs.gitlab.com/user/project/pages/getting_started/pages_from_scratch/

Olivia has done a mock up at :

https://github.com/oliviasculley/uclug.org

the idea is that which ever is used, would allow for anyone configured
in the list of org members/collaborators to publish content to the website.

e.g. "Joe Smith" volunteers to present for June 2026, gets granted
permission to the github/gitlab site and that would allow them to push
up their presentation to the website for anyone to be able to browse.

Updating the README.md would allow the monthly meeting schedule to be
updated ... etc....

Just throwing this out there for the peanut gallery.

To set this up just requires a DNS entry

https://docs.github.com/en/pages/configuring-a-custom-domain-for-your-github-pages-site/managing-a-custom-domain-for-your-github-pages-site

I do like how the Kitchener-Waterloo Linux User Group
(https://kwlug.org/) does their updates and somewhat touches on the
presentation upload perspective.

Kansas City LUG is having this exact same discussion right now.

IMO repo based sites are a good idea to ease the maintenance burden and increase odds of folks contributing what they can.

The UCLUG mockup website linked from the OliviaSculley github looks really great.

The interesting thing is that claude code created it all from a single prompt: ```I want to create a static site for the UCLUG page. The existing uclug page is a bit dated, but is available at https://uclug.org/. use curl to download the full html of all the pages. https://hackgreenville.com/orgs/upstate-carolina-linux-users-group-uclug is another page describing it and the latest events/latest past events are at https://mobilizon.us/@uclug.```

The mobile menu and everything seemed to work on the first try!

Nice! Antropic has done amazing. The vulnerability research distills
down similarly - here is the source or binary, here is it running, go
find RCEs.
