Hi guys,

Don't know if you'd be interested in this but I certainly want to augment myself ASAP. Free talk at UCL by Mark Miodownik, a week on Wednesday, 18.30. Bring your own exoskeleton.

'Our Bionic Future'

The idea that we might be able to rebuild the human the body when it falls apart has been around for a long time.  The 1970s tv series Six Million Dollar Man encapsulated the hopes and the dreams of such a future at a time when the idea of making artificial bones, organs and muscles was very much in the realms of science fiction. Forty years later it is becoming an engineering reality.

 Mark Miodownik, Professor of Materials and Society at UCL Mechanical Engineering, covers some of the most exciting current technologies and dares to look another forty years into the future.

Wednesday 20th June, 6.30pm

Location: Gustave Tuck lecture theatre, Wilkins Building, UCL, Gower St
(Campus Route FinderMap)

Bionic Scary

(bionic scary is like regular scary but with less friction)

Only if you're putting up a prize for the best exoskeleton.

Hopefully not an ugly one like in Prometheus.

Do these things get broadcast in any way? Pod-/Vod-cast, streaming,
psychic projection, etc? I'd love to see the talk, but won't be in
London that evening.

(If only there were a sympathetic yet strong-willed communications
manager watching this list, able to leap into action and spread UCL's
public lectures far and wide...)
