It's here, it's here, it's finally here!

For those with images off:

Institute of Making: the Grand Opening

This is your change to get up close and personal with some of the wonders of the collection, get down and dirty in the workshop, and share in the celebrations.

Hi Joey,

you are welcome at Thursday's event. However it will be quite geared towards "how you can become a member", and at present (this year at least) membership is only open to current UCL staff and students. We do however have a whole programme of events and activities planned that everyone is welcome to attend, UCL or not.

You will be able to find out more about how it all works at the launch events. Not long now!

all the best,

Hi,

OK, sorry I thought alumni had been included but I must have misread something. Hopefully I can make it along to one of the public events.

Good luck with setting it all up.

Thanks, Joey

Hi Joey,

we did initially plan to open the makeSpace to alumni but unfortunately we just haven't got enough room for what could be a large number of interested people, plus some security card issues that are insurmountable at present.

We do have ambition to open tour membership to a wider group in future, and to extend our operating hours. When this happens you'll be among the first to know,

look forward to meeting you soon

Hi,

I was interested in the possibility of developing some basic molecular biology workshops. I was a postdoc until last year, then moved into art and science research and I'm interested in exploring ways of engaging people in a hands on environment.

I'll keep an eye on developments.

Thanks for the help, Joey

Hi Joey,

I'm one of the organizers of the iGEM teams at UCL - iGEM or the international genetically engineered machine competition is the world's largest synthetic biology competition. We're very interested to involve more public participation in our projects from the start. If you're interested it'd be very interesting to see if we can come up with some collaborations with you. This year is shaping up to be very exciting in this regard, with the Arts and Science prize making its first appearance in the UK (this year's annual theme: Synthetic Biology) and with public events such as the upcoming Labeasy at the Arts Catalyst ( http://www.artscatalyst.org/experiencelearning/detail/labeasy/ ) at which we are also participating.

Best,

Philipp

Hi Philipp,

Well done with the iGEM teams, I heard the mermaids' tears clean up project was going on to a final. I would be interested in talking about what collaborations could be possible.

I'll have a look at the Art Catalyst link as well.

Yours, Joey

Hi, I was also under the impression that Alumni would be able to use the facility. I will continue to use the London Hackspace especially as they are moving to a bigger space but will keep an eye out for events at UCL Makespace.

Sigh. Sorry about that all, mistaken email.

While i'm here, I wanted to say that places for our test groups are now full, I'll get in touch with you all to arrange further.

Akbal - apologies, alumni won't be able to join as members at this time, but hope to see you at our events and keep in touch!
