Hi guys, I did a Newsletter last night; if you didn't get it, sign up here:
ucldefendeducation.org/newsletterAnyway, here's the gist of what I put in it:
Demo2012 Action Meeting | Monday 5/11 | 6pm | Room 404, UCLU fourth floor, 25 Gordon Street
The demo is just over two weeks away, and it needs building on campus! Let's think up some ideas.
ULU elections | MAKE SURE YOU VOTE before 9 November | online at ulu.co.uk/electionsMichael Chessum is running for the presidency. Michael is a long-term activist at UCL, as well as co-founder of the National Campaign Against Fees and Cuts (NCAFC), standing on a platform of fighting against cuts and privatisation, and building a big campaign against high London rents.

http://www.ulu.co.uk/vote/election/FILM: Supersize My Pay | Tuesday 6/11 | 7pm | ULU, Malet Street, Room 3D (third floor)
This Tuesday, ULU is screening the film ‘SUPERSIZE MY PAY: How young workers in New Zealand took on McDonalds, and won.’
In 2005/2006, young, precarious workers employed by the likes of McDonalds, Burger King, Starbucks, Pizza Hut, and KFC organised to take on their bosses over the low pay and exploitation they faced at work. After a campaign of direct action, including the world’s first Starbucks strikes, they succeeded in winning significant pay increases, including the abolition of the youth rates of the minimum wage. How do they do it? And can we do it here?
Young workers and working students in Britain face many of the same issues, including casualisation and precarious working. Some argue that it’s impossible for workers to organise and fight back in those jobs, but the experience of Supersize My Pay suggests something different.
ULU will be showing a film about the campaign in New Zealand, followed by discussion.
UCL Stratford: Bulldozing a Community? At last week's discussion on UCL’s plans to build a new campus in Stratford, it was agreed we need an action planning meeting to work out how to escalate the fight. I think it's been suggested we have this on Monday 12th lunchtime.
The next
Defend Education open organising meeting will be on Monday 12/11 at 6pm in Malet Place Engineering building, room 1.02.
Cheers
E
