Here's an update on the various cleaners' campaigns in Bloomsbury. There are lots of ways in which you can support their campaigns! Please read and act:
In 2011, outsourced workers at the University of London began their fight for the London Living Wage, which they won in summer 2012. Now, they are campaigning to be on an equal level with University staff in terms of sick pay, holiday pay and pension: three things (3 Cosas). They have now declared a summer of action to take their fight to the university. You can help by:
- OPERATION HOLIDAY next week Wednesday, 29 May. Assemble at ULU at 12.30pm with holiday gear for a fun action!
- Sending an email to the University of London Vice Chancellor through LabourStart.
- Getting involved in the Summer of Action, full details on Facebook, including the demonstration on 5 June at 1pm outside Senate House to highlight the unfairness of the working conditions for security guards at the UoL.
- Watching and circulating their new campaign video.

Birkbeck Justice for Cleaners CampaignBirkbeck caved into the cleaners' campaign in 2009 and now pays them the Living Wage - but management are attempting to claw this back by reducing the cleaners' hours. Consequentially, the cleaners at Birkbeck are facing a 12.5% wage cut. You can help by:
- Signing and circulating the petition online.
- Reading and spreading the cleaners’ open letter to Birkbeck management.
- Joining the demonstration on 30 May at 5pm outside Birkbeck: details on Facebook.
SOAS Justice for Cleaners CampaignCleaners at SOAS are campaigning to end their unjust treatment as outsourced workers and to be brought back in-house. The University has set up a working group to consider this; their campaign is strong and they are hosting a night on 29 May to screen their new campaign film and to share the latest information:
