The 34TH Annual Afrikan Graduation Ceremony, “We Are the Architects of Our Future,” will take place on Sunday, June 16, 2013 in UCLA’s Royce Hall (time TBA).

The monumental celebration that is the UCLA’s Afrikan Graduation began in 1979 through the tireless work and dedication of fourteen students that decided to create a commencement ceremony for students of Afrikan descent. Since then, Black Bruins continue the tradition of recognizing their accomplishments by participating in the annual ceremony. The ceremony strives to: (1) celebrate the academic achievements of graduating students (2) individually recognize the accomplishments of graduating students in the spirit of Afrikan culture (3) promote retention among the remaining Afrikan student population on campus (4) unite the extended UCLA community and (5) to acknowledge the graduates’ families, for which their accomplishments are mutually shared.

We encourage all graduating students, regardless of race or ethnicity, who wish to celebrate the culmination of their UCLA education in the spirit of Afrikan culture to participate in Afrikan Grad. Please join us in congratulating the Class of 2013!

In order to participate in this year's graduation, students must fill out the following application by May 8th, 2013:

Pictures for the graduation program will be taken on Tuesdays and Thursdays of weeks 4-6. Click on the following link to sign-up to have your picture taken!

**We need an accurate count of how many students will be participating in the ceremony. Failure to submit your application on time will cause your picture/comments to be absent from the program. NO EXCEPTIONS!!

Sincerely,

Hyacinth Noble and Osose Oboh
