Thank you to those of you who attended today's Regional and International Development Group Meeting. Hopefully, we will be able to get the group off the ground and running. Also, for those of you who know others who are interested, have them email me so I can get them onto the google group.
The two major questions that we attempted to answer were: What do we want the group to be/do? and How are we going to organize the group? To answer the first question, it seems that there are a lot of great ideas out there. If you feel that your idea is something that you would take the time to organize then please add it to the following google doc (I'm still figuring out how to get this onto the google group. Can
anybody help me?)
http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dgkbxjdd_27fwsk8hr .
The second question was more logistical. The consensus seemed to be that the group would be managed by a board with equal power. Each member of board would have their own responsibility whether it would be treasurer, secretary or in charge of some specific area. The idea is that there would be no president and vice president per se (though I am in that role on paper since I had to sign someone as president on the registration forms, though it is what we stipulate in the constitution that matters), but an equal sharing of responsibility. Does anyone have any comments on this? How many members should be on the board? I think no more than 7. The idea is to spread responsibility so one person in the group isn't solely responsible for keeping the group
active. How do we want to determine who the board members are? Nomination and election? I look forward to your discussion on this.
Lastly, we need to figure out a time and place to meet in the future. I would like to create a shared calendar in google (jeremy, do you know how to do this?) where each of you could put your unavailable time. Also, where would you like to meet? For me, today's time, Tuesday from 1 to 2, works best, but I wouldn't object to a Thursday Happy Hour or something of the sort.
Thanks,
Jacob
P.S. If you are on this email list and don't wish to be, please email me and I will remove you.
