I am sure many of you are in a similar bind looking for housing. So
far, I have found and been referred to a few helpful links, which I
have included below. If anyone has suggestion on places to live (or
places not to live), they would be appreciated. Additionally, if
anyone know of any other good housing resources, post them here.

When do people typically sign leases in LA, more particularly in the
areas around UCLA (Westwood, Brentwood, West LA West Hollywood etc.)?
While I am sure there is no quick or direct answer, I need to decide
when to come to LA to hunt for a place. In a perfect world, it would
be nice to move in September 1. Thoughts?

I was planning on calling a few real estate places. Ill update here
if i find anything useful.

Underground,

hows the rent in your area and how walk / bike-able is your commute to campus?  Do you have any sense of when people start looking for apartments come fall?  I would like to wait till September to move down from Seattle but I'm worried that might be too late??

I'm seeing a lot of for rent signs south of Westwood Village, which is
my area. Not sure when people usually move in but I think Sept might
be a little late. People tend to move out in June since spring
session is finished that month and then the new flood of renters start
to move in at that time also. It's best to find a place now
especially since you're coming from Seattle. You don't want to be
wasting time looking for a place once the quarter has started because
you won't have time. Biking is probably your best bet if you live
close to UCLA. Public transportation sucks but I never really take it
so you might have to talk to someone else about that. I'm selling my
car and picking up a motorcycle or scooter very soon. If you're
interested in a 2005 Audi A4 Avant, let me know ;). I live about 1.5
miles away from Perloff Hall. Craigslist is definitely a good
resource. That's how I found my place. Good luck.

Found a place!

Tang and I went down Friday and found a pretty decent place just south
of Wilshire and west of the 405... a short bike ride to Perloff...
I hope everyone else is having good luck in their searches...

westside rentals was a big help... if anyone needs a username and
password just email me and I'll hook you up, I don't need it anymore!

also... we found a couple of really chill places that we didn't take
only because we wouldn't have been able to do the deal the day that we
were in LA. One is just north of San Vincente which is super nice and
the other is on Greenfield in westwood. After seeing about 40 pads in
the two trips we made down there, these two were tip top and someone
cool should snag them up... email me if anyone is interested in
specifics.

Peas,
Leon

Yo.

I got a place on Mayfield in Brentwood near Barrington and San
Vincente. When people start getting out here, we should go grab a
beer somewhere.

I'm not moved down from Seattle yet but I to am now a resident of Los Angeles.  I'm in a small studio on the corner of Levering and Glenrock, real close to campus.  Still can't wait to get this show on the road..... I'd just settle for them telling us the course list at this point.....

Good to know people are finding places.
I moved into my place on Ohio & Veteran back in May. Can't wait to
get started. We should set something up and meet in the village for
some beers. I usually go to the Westwood Brewery. A nice place to
relax and chat. Bartenders are nice. Great beer on tap.
