Everyone,

First of all, I hope that everyone is safe and healthy.

There have been reports of increased vandalism on campus as well as increased attempts at overnight intrusion by non-UCLA personnel.

As a result, we are changing the schedule for lockage of all our buildings to 6 PM to 7 AM, M-F.  Buildings will be locked all day Saturday and Sunday.  These changes will be instituted as soon as possible, likely today.  Please note that you and all HSSEAS personnel will need their Bruincards for entry while the buildings are locked.  Please inform all staff.  I request that Dept. Chairs inform departmental staff and that PIs inform research staff as well as students and postdocs serving as essential researchers.  Graduate students serving as TAs for lab courses who are coming to campus to film experiments also must be informed.

It is very likely that we will move toward locking our buildings 24/7 in the very near future, possibly by the end of the week.  Among other things, we need to make plans for laboratory deliveries that will no longer be possible when the buildings are locked.  Our loading dock still will be open, but on a reduced schedule during this ramp-down period.  We will advise you on the dock schedule change and on plans for deliveries soon.  We will be able to continue support of our essential research activities.

We continue to appreciate your understanding and cooperation during these challenging times.  I will be writing to you again soon about our building status and about shipping and receiving.

Best wishes to all,
Hal
