Summer 2013 Event Survey

Hope things go well for all alumni! The UCD VSA bear is finally awake from its long hibernation :-)

Just a reminder that the summer is here, and the bear is overdue for planning the 5th get-together. How time flies!

Please spend a couple minutes to fill out a quick survey (link below). Put Y on the dates you can likely make the event, and N otherwise. You can also suggest alternate dates that you'll be able to attend. Depending on the level of interest, it'll be a go or no go. If you will NOT be able to attend this time, please just put your name on the spreadsheet without any other info.

As for the content, an early dinner with Asian foods (Thai foods this time?) and go to a host's place for van nghe, chit-chat, catching up, karaoke, jokes etc. I'd go as far as having a live band or two. I know some part-time band and I believe Tuan Ngo is in a band so maybe we can put all that together for an evening of van nghe and dancing. We have a lot of singing talents among ourselves, time to perform "Ngan thu ao tim" among others.

If this is a go, we'll be looking for someone who can sponsor the program at their residence, or someone who can book a clubhouse in their establishment (condo, town house)  that can house 50 or so people. Please email me if you can help.

Wow…anh Hon…you read my mind. I was just thinking it is about time to plan our get together. I nominate Phuc & Huyen’s place since you guys had such a great time last time and I missed it. I will check the date and time later tonight and get back to you.

In my confession I've been thinking about this almost everyday, but too busy at work along with planning for nearly one month trip starting June 20, and also planning 3 Bay Area Oracle Viet group events this year, next one Aug 3.

Hope all local and a good number of remote folks can attend this year. If you're remote and will visit Bay Area in Aug/Sep or even after, please make sure put your names, dates and some notes on the list.

Hi Mai Anh,

Hope things go well. Got back from vacation and didn't find enthusiastic responses to the summer event. Next step, let me know when you'll be in San Jose and we'll try to organize a dinner then.

I'm co-organizing a party on Aug 3 evening 5-10pm, live music/singing/potluck. Most people are Oracle employees and families and friends. I'm inviting some UCD alumni who loves get-together/singing to the party.  Let me know if you can join.

Thanks Linh and Dat for getting back to me regarding this post. I sent this message out 2 months ago and there was only one alumni responded to the survey. Therefore I assumed the interest is very low for a get-together this summer. However I met several alumni recently at lunches and recent Oracle families and friends summer party and they all asked me about the UCD event so I thought we'll give it another try. This Friday Aug 16 Bay Area folks please come join a fun friendly lunch event and discuss the time frame and content for the UCD event, location below

This is what Tram wrote in the sign-up sheet: "Cousin's wedding in LA that weekend. Please think of me in between every bite and every song. Have a wonderful party! "

Sorry Tram (and other alumni who can't make Oct 5), should have participated in the survey round, could have influenced the outcome :-( Have fun with relatives at the wedding.

All other alumni who can come and plan to come to the party, it'd help us tremendously if you sign up as early as possible, please. We're working on venue booking and agenda (in case no hosting volunteers) and knowing the approx number of attendees early will influence the outcome. We have seen a lot of late sign-ups in previous years but this year we can't afford to wait because it's only a month away.

We now have a host (will announce later) and will meet at Ta restaurant this Thursday  Aug 29 at 12 PM to have lunch and iron out party details. Things on the plate to be discussed are live music, karaoke, ballroom dancing, foods (catered vs. potluck), activities for kids etc. Please come for lunch, have some fun and bring your ideas.

I'm calling on musicians and singers to dust up your guitars and your voices and bring them to the party. Songs performed in UCD cultural events (Ngan thu ao tim etc.) will definitely bring us back the golden time of the 80's memory lane.
