It's so good to hear from anh Phiet from very far away and yet very near, Phnom Penh and a "lu nuoc mam." It seems getting worldly did not rob you of the sensitivity in your soul. I'm not very sure I can say the same about me. As I remembered from very little I knew of you, you always had a keener and severer outlooks on life than mine. I am glad you've found this group more comforting for you. (Though you might not have thought of me when you wrote that. I promise will never give you such an easy time.  )
My mother in law did not survive the year long fight with cancer and passed a way a month ago. The AARP finally caught up with me and slapped me with a 5 year membership. That's only how long they let me join, figuring that I might not last beyound 5 years more. Death and old age seem to be my current theme. How comforted I feel reading from a friend from so long ago sharing his feelings his need for good friendship...I am touched and moved by your openness... Thank you.
And to everyone who were at the last gathering and those who wished to have attended...everyone at the party looks great. And the food, the wine...I could hear the chattering and the laughter. You do know how to live a good life. I am sorry to miss it this year. And the coming months don't seem too good with way to many unexpected obligations.
But it is wonderful to read from friends. I hope to hear more.

Hello everyone, this is Phiet writing from Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Would you believe it but I recognize everyone in the pictures except perhaps anh Hon's wife whom I have never had a chance to meet? What is also amazing is Anh Tuan Mai's appearance doesn't change one bit from the last time I saw him almost thirty years ago. Going out to the world in the post-Davis stage was like being dunked into a pool of nuoc mam. There are all kinds of characters in that bigger world, smelly people, idiots, backstabbers, jerks, albeit a real world already restricted to people who actually try to compete against you, not quite like us where the commonality is to be true friends who grew up together. I always feel that there is a wisdom of this group, and a sense that me too, I am part of this, I am sharing these values and principles, I belong there. It's nice to see all of you doing well and making this
get-together an annual thing in the summer. If you all could keep it as such, I may be able to make plan to attend next year. Best,

Thanh, I noticed Tuan and Mai Kha's emails are not yet added to group's email. I believe the reason was they never responded to the invitation to join group, could we just add them anyway. Also Ha's email bounced back (is this why they did not get party info?). Tri or someone could you please notify Ha to get her new email address. One more thing, some emails I sent out went to spam folders, could everyone make sure set "not spam". Also each couple should register two emails instead of one, so that in case emails go to spam folder of one, the other one still gets it.
