Hello all,

In existential-phenomenology the heavy focus on "worldhood" (i.e. the
meaning of objects necessarily involves a relationship with a human
experiencer) is seemingly focused on adult humans (Heidegger even
explicitly denies to animals); however, children, animals, ancient
cultures, hunter/gatherers, and madmen too have consciousness and must
have a world disclosed to them, so how can we understand this
phenomenologically?

This week we are going to discuss the implications of animal life on a
phenomenological worldview by discussing a short essay written for
French public radio by Merleau-Ponty entitled, "Exploring the World of
Perception: Animal Life". The essay is in a book entitled World of
Perception, which can also be found here
http://www.scribd.com/doc/26964655/Mεᴙleau-Ponty-World-of-Pεrcεption-2004
(begins text page number 69/online page number 80).

So please read the article--a quick read I promise--and join us March
3rd at 5PM in King Center 320.

FYI: We are transitioning to Orgsync.com, so please sign up for an
account there if you'd like to continue receiving email from us.
Consider using your school email (which you can forward anywhere) to
sign up for this--some things beyond our club require it. This the way
the school handles all club related events and we must have a profile,
etc. The google groups will continue to be active for a few more
weeks, but after we will stop sending out announcements through it.
