Hey all,

This Wednesday, October 6th, at 3 PM will be the next speaker in the
UC Denver Philosophy Department's Honi Haber Speaker Series. The
speaker will be Henry Pickford Asst. Professor of Germanic & Slavic
Languages, CU Boulder. Please try to make it if you can.

Abstract:
In my talk I will examine how the ‘logical metaphysics’ of
Aristotelian generic, or life-form, judgments might be seen to
underlie certain central arguments and analyses by the early Marx
(1844 Manuscripts, and Remarks on Mill). My paper falls into three
parts: in the first part, I’ll canvas some of the logical features and
metaphysical consequences of the type of judgment in question; in the
second part I interpret early Marx’s explication of social production
as an instance of this form of judgment; in the third part I briefly
sketch out how this form of judgment elucidates early Marx’s and
Lukács’ emphasis on the necessity of self-conscious, practical
activity for social change.
