Position

This is a temporary part‑time position that performs sub‑professional and technical engineering, planning, policy and public outreach tasks under the direction of professional and/or technical staff.  Work assignments may include assisting in bicycle facility inspection, bicycle- or pedestrian-related field counts, data analysis, graphic design, public meeting preparation and participation, general research, and other tasks as assigned to support the work of the Bicycle/Pedestrian Program. Work both indoors and out with exposure to weather, traffic, dust, and pollen.  Must be able to exercise appropriate caution when working on roadsides and in traffic.  Ability to hear and see well enough to operate safely in traffic.  The position will report directly to the Bicycle/Pedestrian Coordinator.

Qualifications

Major interest in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Sustainable Development, or Environmental Policy is preferred but not required.  Applicants should be familiar with and able to work with PC-based computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, and other programs) or have a demonstrated ability to quickly learn new software applications.  Experience with graphic design software is a plus.  Qualified applicants must possess effective verbal and written communication skills, and effective interpersonal skills to interact with city staff and the general public.
