Hello,

I am in the process of evaluating a new server for an Oracle database and
I'm trying to decide whether it would be more efficient to set up six 4 gb
harddrives in a single RAID 5 configuration or distribute the various
Oracle tablespaces across the six disks (as I do now with my Sun UltraSparc).

Does anyone have any experience with evaluating the benefits/drawbacks of
the two methods as it pertains to the speed of data retrieval and of
writing new records to the database? Or just opinions/advice on the
subject of RAID? I know the data would be extremely secure in a RAID 5
configuration, but the database is backed up nightly and I don't know if
I'd be sacrificing speed for security.

Thanks,
