I've been reading some PC magaziens recently and keep coming up against the
term Platform, however there is no refernece to what a platform is. So if
anyone can help me answer:

What is a platform? What does it mean when someone says "a client for a
particular platform"?

It would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Tristan.

If you refered to the same magazines, probably they won't tell you.
Read OS text books or look it up on your favorite search engine.

Off my memory, the informal definition of platform is
a (family of) architecture(s) and the OS for it.
