Dear Arja:
The assistant dean (Chuck, whom you met at our orientation on 5/24) will
be handling the stipend payments and I'll follow-up with him about the
expected  payment date.  My understanding is that we need the assigned SSN
in order to process the payment.  The payment will be in a check format
and I understand that either Bank of America or Wells Fargo will cash
these checks without requiring that you open an account, you'll just need
to show your documentation (i.e. passport, visa and SSN identification.  I
believe it took about 3 weeks to get this processed last year, but also
note that there were more IITers as well.
Our computers and phones will be down tomorrow and most of Tuesday while
we move the Deans Office from Campbell Hall to Durant Hall (an new
building on campus) so I may not be able to get a more definitive answer
to you until Wednesday.

I will follow-up, in the mean time, please let others know that if they
are currently experiencing a hardship that they should convey this to me
and I'll see how I can help.

Best,
Mai
