What is with the CS seat counts for next semester? At time of writing,
there is only one non-19X upper division class with enough seats for
everyone who applied, namely 162--every other upper division class is
full, in some cases at nearly 5x capacity. I've never seen things this
tight before. Are there more people or less seats than before? Have
budget cuts reduced the TA pool?
I can't give much more insight on this, but the budget cuts have
definitely made the department hedge its bets. For most of these classes
spots will open up as TAs are hired. You'll notice that the rooms these
classes are booked in can fit more people, so I'd hang tight for now.
Yes, it sucks, and we're going to have to work hard as a department to
increase the efficiency of our teaching to accommodate more students
while decreasing spending, so if people have suggestions, go ahead and
voice it to faculty and staff members!
*"productive" is a somewhat subjective term in this context.
