Dear SEEDS,
It's April! Which means it is election time. Next week, we will accept nominations for officer positions and then vote anonymously. The meeting will be held Tuesday April 12 at 5pm, location TBA. All officers need to help with organizing activities, participate in activities, and make sure the club is registered with the ASUC and Center for Student Leadership. Elected positions are:
**President: Act as liaison with ASUC, Center for Student Leadership, and ESA. Be primary signatory for the group. Coordinate the other officers, delegating tasks. Run meetings.
**Treasurer: Undergo agent training with ASUC. Become signatory. Handle funding/reimbursements. Fill out ASUC report forms each semester.
**Secretary: Take meeting notes and email them out. Write descriptions of the club for/with publicity.
Coordinator positions we have had in the past are:
**Volunteer: Find volunteer projects. Coordinate with leaders of volunteer organizations. RSVP members and coordinate transportation.
**Education: Schedule times with teachers at Malcolm X. Coordinate these times with the membership's availability. Direct the development of the lesson plan.
Kristina is our link to the elementary schools, so probably she can stay in this position for us into next year. Speaking of education!!...
Our next potential date for a science lesson at Malcolm X Elementary is April 25. Tentatively leave that morning open! We're asking them for the early hours 8:45-10:30 ish like last time. Keep your eye out for confirmation of the time and date please. Also we talked about doing a field trip and the teacher still want to come visit our campus. Time is short, so we will probably have to do it after the semester ends, during the week of May 16.
Cal Day is April 16! We are tabling on the GPB lawn with the other CNR groups. Setup begins at 10:30am and tabling goes from 11-12. Yekun, Mauna, and Tiffany will be there, but you can join in the fun too! You can go and help talk to new students at the table, and you can also help with the making of seed paper! Our seed paper making party has no time/date yet (probably next week). It is paper that is in fun shapes and colors that you can plant in soil and the seeds will grow out of it into little plants. How fun, right?
A volunteer opportunity is coming up! Mauna is trying to work out a time with Susan for April 17, but if not that, we can do April 23, which is restoring coastal prairie along the bike-ped walkway called Ohlone Greenway. It is hosted by California Habitats Indigenous Activitsts (CHIA). Learn more about CHIA on their facebook page!
Flora is going to the Leadership Conference in Flagstaff this weekend! Thanks Flora! Come to the next meeting to find out what she learned, and to discuss possibly teaming with a local organization for a long-term education/sustainability project.
Phew! Sorry for the long email. Have a lovely weekend, and I'll see ya next week!
