Moraine Township Seeks Volunteers to Help Plant Rain Gardens at Mooney Cemetery
In its continuing effort to address drainage issues at Mooney Cemetery on Ridge Road just north of Deerfield Road, MoraineTownship is seeking volunteers to assist in a “planting event” for two rain gardens.
The planting event is scheduled for Friday, September 6, and Saturday September 7. Volunteers are needed to help plant (or direct other volunteers in planting) 700 gallon containers in two rain garden areas. Volunteers are welcome for one or more of the following shifts:
Friday, September 6, 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Friday, September 6, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Friday, September 6, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
Saturday, September 7, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Saturday, September 7, 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
The rain gardens are part of a larger project to address drainage issues in a sustainable manner and aesthetically pleasing way.
“We are committed to showing respect and care to those buried there, and to being good stewards on behalf of our community,” observed Township Supervisor Anne Flanigan Bassi.
The project was partially funded by a grant from the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission. Earlier this summer, the aging driveway was replaced with permeable pavers and pipes to direct water into the rain gardens.
